Tackling lobbying and media relations as an industry body means a stronger, more effective voice and avoids the need for individual members to raise contentious issues of wider concern. Full NJUG Members will have the opportunity to shape NJUG’s stakeholder engagement strategy (through the Board of Directors) and meet with the key decision-makers from across Government and the wider public sector in bilateral meetings as well as at events.
Direct Participation in the Work of the Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee (HAUC(UK)) and Department for Transport Working Groups
HAUC(UK) was established in 1986 by the constituent bodies of the local Highway Authorities and the Utilities to assist the Secretary of State in arriving at proposals for new street works legislation. HAUC(UK) played a significant role in the drawing up of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA), its subsidiary legislation and associated Codes of Practice and has also been active in the development of the Regulations and Codes of Practice to implement the Traffic Management Act 2004. Through HAUC(UK), full NJUG members will have the opportunity to work directly alongside Local Authorities in various Working Groups on the formulation, interpretation and implementation of the legislation affecting the utilities industry.
Additionally, through NJUG, members have the opportunity to influence the development and delivery of the HAUC(UK) Strategy and Business Plan.
