Street Works UK’s Background

Background

Street Works UK was formed in 1977 to explore ways in which mutual co-operation could overcome difficulties encountered during street works. It was originally jointly funded by its founder members, Water, Gas, Electricity, BT, Mercury Communications and the franchised cable operators.

Street Works UK evolved to became a limited company in December 2003 and is now fully recognised as the UK’s Industry Association for street works issues promoting best practice, self regulation and a two-way working relationship with government as the utility arm of the Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee representing street works in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales known as HAUC (UK).
