The full video is available on the Street Works UK YouTube page here.

Individual chapters can also be accessed on the page and via the below links.

The videos go through the Protocol process step by step, covering:

Chapter 1: Planning

Chapter 2: Excavation

Chapter 3: Site Assessment

Chapter 4: Litmus Testing

Chapter 5: PAK Testing

Chapter 6: Lab Testing

Chapter 7: Planning and Scheduling Records

Chapter 8: Waste Collection

Chapter 9: Records and Reporting

From 1 October 2025, the new Street Works UK Material Classification Protocol becomes mandatory. The Environment Agency’s RPS 298 & 299 expire on 30 September 2025.

This means you must:

  • Separate & classify all excavated waste (soil, asphalt, hazardous vs non-hazardous).
  • Complete desktop & site assessments.
  • Sample & lab-test at least 1% of excavations.
  • Submit quarterly results via Street Works UK and upload to test results to Street Manager.

Non-compliance isn’t an option – it risks enforcement action and suspension from the protocol. Now is the time to use the training videos to train teams, update processes, and get reporting systems in place.

Thank you to the following Street Works UK members who supported the development of the video – Network Plus, Sapphire Utility Solutions, M Group, United Living, VMO2, Comex2000, OCU Group and JSM Group.
