Following the announcement from TfL stating that London’s Lane Rental Scheme is to be updated and expanded from May this year, Clive Bairsto CBE, Chief Executive of Street Works UK has made this statement:
“Street Works UK is disappointed with TfL’s decision to proceed with many of its proposed updates to its Lane Rental Scheme, in particular the decision to extend Lane Rental charges to certain footways, and we continue to believe that alternative methods would ensure adequate provisions to protect pedestrians.
“Street Works UK remains committed to working with our partners in highways authorities to ensure critical works are delivered effectively and efficiently with minimum disruption to road users and pedestrians. We will continue to advocate for a more proportionate and consistent approach in the application of Lane Rental Schemes across the country, and work with local partners and our members to best achieve this.”
